Burning a biomass briquette is far more efficient than burning firewood, coal, or FO because it provides more calorific value per kilogram and significantly reduces boiler fuel costs. Additionally, it is an eco-friendly and pollution-free fuel. Bio-coal, also known as biomass briquette, is a better and more affordable alternative to these fuels. To cut expenses on boiler fuels, several Indian businesses have moved from furnace oil, firewood, and coal to biomass briquettes. Briquettes made of biomass are being used by several businesses as a fuel source to obtain Carbon Credits, an indirect benefit. The need for and usage of biocoal briquettes is rising steadily for a variety of reasons, including the rising expense of alternative fuels like coal, natural gas, and others; the necessity of secure energy resources
What is Biomass?
Without the use of chemicals, glue, or binder, biomass briquettes, also known as bio coal, are created from agricultural, forestry, and wood wastes using a high compression process. This process produces 100% natural, environmentally beneficial, and pollution-free solid fuel without the need for binders. Briquettes made of biomass prevent atmospheric carbon emissions from fossil fuels and are a renewable energy source.
A common biomass briquette compresses and extrudes waste materials, such as sawdust, groundnut shells, cotton stalks, castor seed shells, etc., to create a reconstituted log that can be used in place of coal and firewood. The biochar has a Calorific Value (GCV) of 3900+ KCal/Kg. While green firewood can have a moisture percentage of up to 55%, briquettes can have as little as 4% moisture. The high density of coal—roughly 1000 kg/M—reduces the need for storage space and transportation expenses. Briquettes are a preferred solid fuel because of their extremely low moisture level and 8% ash concentration. The abundance and continuous production of agricultural wastes allow for a year-round supply of briquettes in the desired quantity.
